
My Bio
Todd A. Hearn is a teacher and performer of woodwinds (clarinets, saxophones, flutes, & bassoon) who currently resides in the city of Houston, TX. He has had a varied performing career throughout his lifetime and can be seen performing with prominent orchestras, pit orchestras, chamber ensembles, small jazz ensembles and big bands. Notable performances include appearances with the Houston Symphony for their An American in Paris movie soundtrack performance, the Hello, Dolly! Broadway Traveling Production at the Hobby Center in Houston, TX, the Guys & Dolls Broadway Traveling Production at the Playhouse Theater in Wilmington, DE, the AD Players production of West Side Story, the chamber music setting of Lone Star Lyric’s production of Seance on a Wet Afternoon along with American musical composer and lyricist Steven Schwartz, Theater Under the Stars (TUTS), with the international choral sensation LIBERA, as principal Clarinet for Houston Repertoire Ballet’s yearly performance of the Nutcracker, Brazosport Symphony, the Cypress Philharmonic, TMC Orchestra, Tallowood Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Southern Fingerlakes, Cayuga Chamber Winds, Ensemble X, the Garden State Philharmonic, Delaware County Symphony, FAME Festival Orchestra, Delaware Ballet Company, the Katy Wind Symphony, New Jersey Wind Symphony, the Cantata Singers of Elmira Orchestra, “Coro Allegro,” Houston Show Choir, as a Guest Soloist with the Newark Symphony, along with many musical productions (over 100) in the Houston area including with Class Act Productions and HITS Theatre. He has also performed along with the Grammy Award Winning singer and songwriter Laura Story, the American classical crossover quintet Veritas, with Andrews Sisters tribute trio The Swing Dolls along with Atom Smith, at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, and was a special guest soloist on Kelly Ricket’s Hourglass album.

Mr. Hearn holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Delaware and a Master of Music Degree from Ithaca College. Both of his degrees were in Applied Clarinet Performance, and in undergrad he also minored in Saxophone, Jazz, & Music Business. His primary instructors include David Weber, Michael Galvan, Frank Kowalski, Charles Salinger, and Peter Hill, amongst others. As a graduate student on full scholarship at IC, he was the clarinet and woodwind assistant to Dr’s. Richard Faria and Keith Kaiser, and also directed the M & W Jazz Lab Bands. While in school he was a three time finalist and winner of both school’s Concerto Competitions (Artie Shaw Concerto, Aaron Copland Concerto, Franz Krommer Double Concerto No. 1, Op. 35). In 2002, he presented his paper on the topic of Clarinet and Guitar Music at the International Clarinet Association (ICA) for ClarinetFest in Stockholm, Sweden.

Mr. Hearn has been teaching music for close to 30 years and has had students as young as 5 and as old as 75. He is currently a teacher in the Tomball Independent School District, and is a former teacher in the Cypress Fairbanks, Spring, and Humble ISD’s, and is a former faculty member of the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia, PA.
